What’s Included in Media Monitoring?
You can access all of Media Monitoring’s features via the main dashboard.
To get started, simply open the app and enter the name of the brand you want to track. This will create a new project for that brand.
In addition to English, you can filter the results by the following languages:
- Arabic
- Croatian
- Czech
- Danish
- Dutch
- Finnish
- French
- German
- Hungarian
- Indonesian
- Italian
- Korean
- Norwegian
- Polish
- Portuguese
- Romanian
- Russian
- Slovak
- Spanish
- Swedish
- Thai
- Turkish
- Vietnamese
Once you have selected your brand, the app is then split into three sections: Summary, Mentions, and Analysis.
In the already created project, you can edit required & excluded keywords.
The Summary Tab
The Summary tab provides a complete overview of your brand’s online mentions, going as far back as two months (note that for new projects, data is available for the previous 30 days). It focuses on two key metrics.
Mentions
This is a total sum of all your mentions over the chosen time period.
Using a state-of-the-art machine learning algorithm, these mentions are then categorized as either positive, negative, or neutral. This allows you to easily prioritize mentions that may require your urgent attention.
Note that this algorithm is based on live data, with models trained using hundreds of thousands of real examples.
Presence
The app also provides a Presence Score, which helps measure your brand’s online presence and popularity during this period. This metric is a useful way to measure and benchmark brand awareness and can help you evaluate your marketing and PR efforts.
Presence Score is calculated using two primary factors: the number of mentions during the given period and their total reach (based on impressions generated). The more mentions and reach your brand gets, the more substantial the score.
You can explore both of these metrics in more detail by clicking “More Analytics.” This will take you to the Analysis tab (see more below).
The Mentions Tab
The Mentions tab is where you can see a full list of all your mentions for your chosen time period. Simply click on the mention to see the post in its original format.
You can filter the list using the following three parameters: Category, Sentiment, and Importance.
Categories
The Categories filter allows you to only see mentions on selected platforms. For example, if you just want to review your mentions on Youtube, then select only that option.
The app sources brand mentions from the following platforms:
- News websites
- Blogs
- Forums
- Video platforms (including YouTube and TikTok)
- General websites (including Telegram and podcasts)
Sentiment
As mentioned above, Sentiment categorizes all of your mentions as either positive, negative, or neutral. Here, you can filter your results accordingly.
Importance
This filter allows you to focus on just the “important” mentions. Note that importance is calculated using Media Monitoring’s custom algorithm and is based on:
- How trustworthy the source is
- The size of the source’s audience
- The number of interactions around the mention (i.e., replies, shares, and comments)
- The popularity of the author
- The popularity of the domain
The Analysis Tab
The Analysis tab shows you a top-down overview of your mentions.
This allows you to see the development of trends over a given period of time, specifically in regards to:
- The number of mentions (including their sentiment)
- Your ongoing Presence Score
- Reach (an estimate of how many impressions the posts featuring your brand have received)
You can also get a breakdown of the most influential websites that mention your brand. This list is calculated using Page Strength, which is based on the size of the website’s audience, and Visits, which is the estimated monthly number of visitors to that site.
Finally, you can check out the “Links shared in conversation” report to see which links appear most frequently in the posts containing your keyword.
Email Reports
The Email Reports feature allows you to receive daily, weekly, or monthly reports with the following metrics included:
- Number of positive, negative, and total mentions
- Minimum Reach
- Maximum Reach
- Presence Score
To set up your email reports, click on the Subscribe for email report button below your projects:
You’ll be asked to choose between the daily, weekly, or monthly report and decide when you’d like to receive it (e.g., Monday, the first day of the month).
To stop receiving email reports or to adjust the schedule, click on the cog icon in the top-right corner of the interface. You will see a drop-down menu with the option to turn on and off the email reports, and the Edit schedule option that allows you to adjust your report settings.
Data and Limits
With a full subscription, you are entitled to track two keywords (these can be in the same project, or in two separate projects). However, it’s possible to purchase additional keyword bundles on the My Apps page.
The source data is updated every 12 hours, although some sources are aggregated faster than this. Please note that it’s not currently possible to export the data.
